We Install Or Replace Bathroom Exhaust Fans

The bathroom exhaust fan in your home plays an important role in keeping your home healthy by controlling the humidity and improving the air quality in your home.  When your bathroom exhaust fan isn’t working, or is too small for the job it can lead to excess humidity, which leads to mold and moisture issues in your home.  If your fan is running when you have a shower or a bath and the mirror still fogs up then your bathroom has an inadequate exhaust fan.

Precise Electric Service LLC is an electrical contractor based out of Omaha Nebraska and serves the Omaha Metro area.  We specialize in the installation and replacement of bathroom exhaust fans in homes or commercial buildings.  If your bathroom exhaust fan can’t keep up with the humidity in your bathroom we can upgrade it or we can also install bathroom fans where one hasn’t been installed before, properly venting to the outdoors instead of into your attic.

How Do You Correctly Size Your Bathroom Fan For Proper Exhaust?

As already mentioned earlier on the page if you have a shower or bath in your bathroom with your fan on and the mirror still fogs up you have one of two problems.  Your exhaust fan isn’t properly sized for your space or it could be worn out and in need of replacement.

Bathroom exhaust fans are rated by CFM (cubic feet per minute).  This is the measurement of the air they can move.  Your bathroom exhaust fan should be sized large enough so that it can replace replace the air in your bathroom at least eight times an hour.

Let’s say you have  a bathroom with an 8 foot ceiling and it’s 8 feet wide by 12 feet long (8′ x 8′ x 12′).  You would then multiply the width x length x height of the room.  This gives us a total of 768 cubic feet.  We then divide that number by 60 (which is how many minutes are in an hour)  and we then multiply by 8 which is our target for total air exchange in an hour.

So that would look like this.

8′ x 8′ x 12′ = 768 Cubic Feet.  Divided by 60 = 12.8.  Then we multiply that by 8 which equals 102.4 CFM.  The bare minimum CFM of your bathroom exhaust fan in this case would be 102.4 CFM.  If you’re the type of person that likes to take long hot showers then it’s a good idea to size your bathroom exhaust fan a little bit larger than you actually need.

To save on your electrical bills we can even install a timer switch for your bathroom exhaust fan so it will run for a set period of time while you shower and a few minutes after to remove the excess humidity and then it shuts itself off so you don’t forget and leave it running all day.
